At the very north of the Brecon Beacons national Park can be found the small town of Sennybridge, or Pontsenni. It can be quite an interesting place to visit; there is a large military base there, and as we passed by on our way to hunt for geocaches, we were treated to the landing of two Apache helicopters, which you don’t see every day. Also, just up the A40, can be found a memorial to the first victim of drink-driving in the UK, on 19th December 1835, a mail-coach driver named Edward Jenkins, killed when the coach he was driving plunged down a 121ft ravine due to him being completely hammered.
Sennybridge is also a good starting point for visiting both the Camarthenshire Fans and the Brecon Beacons, as it is about an equal distance from both. The town owes its growth partly to the now dismantled Neath and Brecon railway, and the remains of the railway bridge accross the Senni can be seen today.
