Remembering from my school days, anyone visited here? The tunnel is situated at the back end of an old disused tin works/factory just across the river from Rhydfelin. Access is gained via Rhydfelin or Meadow Street in Treforest.

Here's an archive shot as ive never been down there with a camera, and a google earth view to give some perspective.

Anyone fancy a mooch round down there?

I reckon that old scarp yard would be a decent trip too of all that stuff is still left there!

Excellent, the Old Tin works and the Tunnell are easily accesible and out of the way aswell, The Scrap Yard is a different matter however, it is shut, but it has a 10ft concrete wall right the way around it which is a bugger to climb at 16 so i think i might struggle a bit now. Up for giving it a go if theres a good photo to be had though

    Alrite chaps
I have been there a while back but the shots haven't made it as far as the website yet due to unforseen laziness. Here's a sample:

I'd be up for going back. The tunnel is interesting as the girders used in construction were never removed. Good for photo's but it's a little like the Krypton factor getting in.

But there is a hole in the fence...

Give us a shout anyone who wants to go down there and we can try and get an excursion organised.

Deffinately looks worth a visit. So the tunnel was never actually completed then

It was finished, but the last phase - removing the girders and laying the ballast and tracks to the Taf Valley Railway - never went ahead. If I remember correctly, the viability of the tin works dropped off.

This tunnel was built over the feader stream to the tin works, when the embankment was built for the Cardiff Railway.

It's been a year or so since I was last down there but access to the tunnel was very easy. (http://www.ratsandwich.co.uk/tun-2.htm) I would be up for a trip but the way work is looking it would have to be a Saturday. When I was there there was a security guy at the scrap yard

    HA

She'd love that. I suggested Saturday as I know Ratty'll have trouble with the week days, but from my point of view any day is okay for a short visit, working nights and all that.

It did but there were only 3 of us. Unfortunately fences have been erected around all the buildings so photographing them is pretty pointless now. The tunnel is still good though :) and we went up on top to the abutments of the old viaduct.
